Re: My own home
I've had 2 houses at the same time twice, the only really bad thing was wondering when the other one would be sold.

Re: My own home
I had 2 houses at once twice before, once I got a month to redecorate the new place before I moved in, it was great. The second time I had 2 months with the old place still mine as such, it was odd, as I had moved, but it was nice in a way knowing I could still use the place too.
Good luck over the next few days Shane, don't overdo the shifting, especially with the heavy stuff!

Re: My own home
Day one went okay. All the stuff I had boxed up has been moved and I didn't hurt myself. A couple of issues though... it suddenly got warm and a ll my light jackets are packed. Also we're looking for the stove, we were all there to install it but it doesn't seem to be there yet. So far that might be the biggest problem so far. I can live with that.
Also my brother has decided to come down to give us a hand with the heavy lifting on Sunday.

Re: My own home
Well the stove mystery has been explained. It did arrive but was damaged in transit so we're waiting for a new one to arrive in a few days. Not much we can do about that one. Day 2 of moving has gone pretty well, the weather turned nice and I got everything done that I wanted to. Just the big stuff left to do tomorrow.
Re: My own home
Having to eat out for a few days is no hardship, you'll be fine Shane.
Good your brother is going to help too, that's nice.
New place to sleep in tonight then . Hope the heavy stuff is easily shifted. Enjoy your own place

Re: My own home
We got it done!!! I'm now in my new home. It only took us about 2 hours to get the big stuff moved and the old place cleaned up. I believe I vacuumed up about 3 dogs worth of fur. So from here on out I'm living in my own place. We got some stuff set up and I'll post up some pictures in a day or 2 of how it looks.
Re: My own home
Looking forward to the new pictures Shane, well done.
Don't forget to brush Ripley more often, no doggy smell/fur in your new place then

Re: My own home
This week I got the rest of the furniture ordered and managed to get 2 rooms more or less sorted. Please note the new stove in place and functioning.
The entertainment wall.
And the kitchen.... with stove.

Dang, man! That's why your k/d sucks - you need to be sitting closer to the TV!
Looking nice in there. Dig the old radio.

Re: My own home
In reality, I'm only a couple of feet further away than I was in the old place. That radio was my grandparents and after they passed, I refinished it, pulled out all the old guts and installed a mini CD player in it so it still actually lives.
Re: My own home
Its amazing to think in today's day and age that simple things like a Radio used to actually be a main piece of furniture.
All looking good there Shane. Be careful not to get Stuck on that Ladder tho as you know what your like for getting stuck on stuff

I'm hoping that ladder won't be there for long. I have a friend here who builds staircases (yes that all he does) who is going to come up with something for me when he gets a chance.
Re: My own home
Looking good! May still have to spring for that bigger tv.

Re: My own home
You need a loft ladder there Shane. One you can pull down when you need it, but leave up out of the way the rest of the time
I agree about the tv too, the bigger the better

Re: My own home
There, I got the curtains installed now. Yes I know they should be steamed or ironed or whatever but I'm a guy and don't have that stuff.
Also because Stu gave me so much grief, I cleaned up the wires on the entertainment wall before he came over and did it for me.

Nice Shane! You don't have an iron? How do you press your shirts?
Entertainment wall is much better now, I guess I should tidy mine too.

Re: My own home
Now I'm almost excited, I just got word that my furniture will be here in about 10 days.
Re: My own home
I know this is Shane's thread but I don't want to start a new one.
I have finally moved in to my new apartment Gonna have the place "to myself" for a couple of months before my gf moves in. She doesn't want to live together before we're married....she's very traditional when it comes to stuff like that.
Still need to sort out where to put everything, but it's starting to look good. Feels good!

Re: My own home
It does feel good Glenn. I should be getting the rest of my furniture this weekend and that will complete the basic set up. It's kind of nice walking around thinking that "This is mine and I don't have to move again unless I want to."
Re: My own home
Nice Glenn, enjoy single life now because when she does move in, everything will be hers

I used to have 0.90ish upload and 4-5 download...

Re: My own home
The furniture has been delivered and now I'm feeling a little more complete.
First up the office/guest room with it's new futon. Otherwise known as the other end of the living room.
Another view of the futon, or the dog's spare bed now.
The new dining room set.
And finally not as exciting but a new mattress for the bedroom.
